WHO IS FRIENDS OF TEXAS IRON & STEEL?

We are a coalition of hard working Texans, small business owners, and companies with large Texas footprints dedicated to producing the iron and steel our country needs, right here in America.

The Texas iron and steel industry has long been essential to producing American made products, erecting the skylines of our great cities, and providing the materials and hard work that won two world wars and have helped make our armed forces the finest on the planet.

Our goal is to educate Texans on the important role the industry plays in our state’s overall economy, to highlight the challenges the industry faces from forces abroad and here at home, and to come up with business-friendly public policy solutions that ensure our hard earned tax dollars are spent on high quality, American made iron and steel, that will drive the comeback our Texas iron and steel industry desperately needs.

Together, our efforts will put thousands of Texans to work and keep our state the envy of the nation.

The Crisis Facing the U.S. Steel Industry  •  CNN

As the backbone of American manufacturing, the steel industry is essential to the world's water and food supply, energy generation and national security. The U.S. military uses steel extensively, ranging from aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines to missiles, armor plate for tanks and every major military aircraft in production. There are a lot of reasons to take pride in American steel.

But today, our steel industry is being hurt by an unprecedented surge in unfairly traded imports, with record amounts of foreign-produced steel flooding into the United States. Cheap, subsidized foreign imports are taking steel jobs away.
